Saturday 28th March Message
Dear Reader
There are many passages in the bible that have become more familiar than others and some we recognise as hymns. Some denominations only ever use the psalms in their services.

The psalms speak to us today because they seem to express what we feel and it is comforting to realise that someone so long ago felt just as we do today as they wrote them.

Jesus himself  quoted the psalms and he would have been familiar with them and indeed found in them the words that described his innermost feelings.

Some of the psalms continue to voice our thought and feelings
Psalm 139 is just such a psalm. Nowadays it is easily recognised as the hymn ‘ You are before me, Lord, you are behind’ and sung to the tune ‘Highland Cathedral’.  The words are truly reassuring.
There is nothing about us that God doesn’t know. Others might not understand us but it’s not like that with God, he does. Anywhere and everywhere and in all circumstances, good and bad, God is there and we can never outdo, outrun or find ourselves in a place where God is absent.
I invite you to think/meditate on these things today.
God bless you.

Revd James Boag

PSALM 139: 1-12

You have searched me, Lord,
    and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
    you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
    you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue
    you, Lord, know it completely.
You hem me in behind and before,
    and you lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
    too lofty for me to attain.

Where can I go from your Spirit?
    Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
    if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
    if I settle on the far side of the sea,
 even there your hand will guide me,
    your right hand will hold me fast.
 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
    and the light become night around me,”
 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
    the night will shine like the day,
    for darkness is as light to you.
