Stagecoach Glasgow

Stagecoach Theatre Arts Glasgow has been running it’s schools
and holiday workshops at Broom Church for eighteen months now. There are three
senior schools for 6 to 16 years and three Early Stages classes for 4 to 7 years which
run on Fridays and Saturdays during the school term. Students take weekly classes in
drama, singing and dancing with professional performers and tutors. Stagecoach is
also running its two week summer holiday workshop for 8 to 17 years from 30th July
until 10th August. The students spend two weeks rehearsing a piece of musical theatre
full-time before performing it at the newly renovated Eastwood Theatre. For younger
students there are two one week performance courses from 30th July to 3rd August and
6th July to 10th August where students attend for 5 mornings and do a musical play on
the church’s stage on the Friday lunchtime. Stagecoach Glasgow also has a North
Glasgow school which runs on Saturdays in Milngavie.
Stagecoach Glasgow South performed Hans Christian Andersen's the
Snow Queen on 9th December in front of a full house at the Tramway and raised £4000
for the Teenage Cancer Trust. Boys from the north and south schools combined to film
a football documentary for Norwegian production company, TV2 on Scotland's very own
Charlie Miller who was then playing for Norwegian club, SK Brann. On 20/21st March,
fifteen children from Glasgow South took part in a production of Tosca at the Glasgow
Royal Concert Hall with Moldova's Chisinau National Opera. They sang in Italian and
appeared in two scenes. One of our 10 year olds students sang the Shepherd
Boy solo! Chisinau National Opera are returning to Glasgow in June when they will be
performing Aida at the Kings Theatre. Once again they will be using our students to
dance, sing and act! A 9 year old student has just finished the
professional run of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the Edinburgh Playhouse playing Jeremy
and another 9 year student is soon to appear in Dr Who! Three of our students appeared in
Disney's Beauty and the Beast at the
Kings Theatre in August 2006.
This Christmas, all senior school students from Stagecoach Glasgow
will be appearing in the "The Spirit of Christmas" for the Muscular Dystrophy
Campaign at Glasgow University's Bute Hall. We have appeared in this twice before at
Paisley Abbey alongside several famous Scottish performers. This year it's bigger and
we're looking forward to another enjoyable and worthwhile evening.
If you want to find out any more about Stagecoach Glasgow please visit the
web site http://www.stagecoach.co.uk
